Copacabana Bolivia 10th-11th March 2007

We finally got to see some of the Bolivian countryside. We drove along the altopino to Lake Titicaca. The weather cleared up as we had left rain in La Paz. We had our own guide and boat for our trip to Isla de Sol which was really nice. We saw some of the Inca ruins, llamas, alpacas, donkeys and the terraces up to 1500 years old.

In the evening Helen tried llama meat which was quite nice (poor llamas!). Our guide had also been telling us about the way the Bolivians and Peruvians eat and kill Guinea Pigs! We haven´t seen any yet and won´t be trying them if they are on any menus.
We also had a guided tour around Copacabana with its markets and church. The women do most of the selling whilst the men often drive taxis. Some were selling small endemic fish from the lake, local popcorn and also dried potatoes. We were quite lucky being in Copacabana on a Sunday as we got to see all the cars lined up outside the church to be blessed. They decorate them with flowers. People come here from all over Bolivia and the nearest parts of Peru, Chile and Argentina when they buy a new car for the blessing.
